About Meaford, Ontario
Nestled on the southern shore of Georgian Bay, lies the town of Meaford. Known for its abundant agriculture, with apple orchards being the main contributors. Meaford was first called Peggy’s Landing named after the wife of the first settler David Miller. It grew overtime, and eventually the name changed to Meaford becoming an important fishing port in the 1870’s. Agriculture and industrial produce, as well as fish attracted many commercial vessels.
Meaford is also growing in the tourism industry. Drawing visitors with its scenic views, waterfront, and various recreational activities. Visitors come from all around to enjoy the many water activities like boating, canoeing, and fishing. The hiking trails through the Bruce Trail and many camp sites available are also a common draw for tourists. To keep the tourism industry growing in Meaford, they host various festivals and events throughout the year, creating a sense of community. Markets during the summer months are booming and the local bed and breakfasts quickly book up with guests.
