Smart irrigation controllers offer customers ease of use with their irrigation systems. The systems will run automatically providing the customer the convience of not having to turn them on manually. Not only are you able to program the sprinkler to run for a particular length of time and time of the day, the smart controller takes into account weather and adjusts accordingly. This will save you money and water as your sprinkling system will not be watering unnecessarily. How do I turn off my controller?
This is simple for most types of controllers that we service. There will be a dial on the controller and it will be in the auto or run position for normal operation. To stop all watering, simply turn that dial to the off position and leave it there. For our new hydrawise controllers there is no formal off position or button but you simply have to suspend the watering on all zones for whatever length of time desired. Here is a link to the hydrawise website where they can walk you through it.
How hard is it to set up and use my controller?
All the manufacturers we sell have made an effort to focus on ease of use of their new lines of controllers. They also offer video tutorials on their websites about common functions and programming. They may look intimidating but there are a slightly more complicated alarm clock. You need to set an accurate date and time so the controller has a baseline to go from, then you set what time you want the sprinklers to wake up, you set how long they are awake for and then which days of the week you would like them to wake up. Once you have a program set up, your system will do all the work for you.
Do I need to do anything to my controller if it rains?
All systems we install come with a rain sensor that will automatically suspend the system if it has rained. Some of the newer controllers even use forecasted weather to adjust for rainfall to save even more water. If your system doesn’t have a rain sensor I would highly recommend you think about adding one.
What is the most important function on my controller?
The seasonal adjust. This is an adjustment to the entire program based on the season. By lowering the seasonal adjustment below 100% in the spring and fall and slightly raising it above 100% in the hottest summer months you can allocate water to the needs of your landscape much better and save money in the process.
